STICKY NOTE: Check Your Comments Please

For whatever reason, comments are not always appearing on the blog. We get notified via email when someone posts comments and we are finding sometimes comments aren't on the blog when we check in later. If you delete a comment you previously made, that's fine but if you didn't delete your comment and there isn't a comment from the Admin saying we deleted your comment, please repost your comment.

  2. Payless West,

You had a great comment going there until you sunk it by including a statement on the very private lives of some of the parties involved in the incident you detail. Private, outside of the workplace details have no place here.

We also did not feel that shaping your comment in the form of a riddle was appropriate as it invites identification of someone without their permission and we don't name names here without the consent of all parties so please, don't post an answer to your "riddle", it will be deleted.

The criminal acts you alluded to have been documented. Yes, it was a big mistake. Everyone makes mistakes and, most of the time, pays for them. Once they've done that they're entitled to move on (see Michael Vick please).

We will address your charge of nepotism as that is a topic that is well suited to this blog.

There is nothing wrong or illegal with nepotism. Many people have gotten jobs through family connections. The bottom line in any hiring instance is: is this family member (hire) qualified and capable of doing the job they were hired to do? It would be stupid to put your family member in a position where they are going to fail. It's bad for your family and it damages your credibility.

This may be a stupid case of nepotism but only time will tell.

  3. Maybe there isn't an issue with nepotism but being a DIRECT report is not acceptable. Would any of the sales managers be allowed to directly manage and or hire their spouse? It's not that there IS something fishy going on, it's that it gives the IMPRESSION of something fishy that companies try to avoid.

As far as qualifications, well when your last job ends in such disaster that you're required to sell out your co-workers for everyone's kickback activity (#unethical) and no previous management experience, you can see where people question the decisions that are being made. Don't hash tag us with respectable qualities when people aren't displaying them.
